Professional Certificate in Visualization, Computer Graphics and Data Analysis
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
• Understand Number Systems used in computers.
• Formulate, interpret, and manipulate logical statements.
• Manipulate relations and functions between sets.
• Design a database using key relational database model concepts;
• Apply query languages and manage a database using SQL
• Summarise and represent data meaningfully for further analysis and decision making
• Prepare and manipulate data for visualization.
• Understand the elements of 2D and 3D computer graphics and how they can be applied in the creation of 2D and 3D applications.
In this course, students will learn the basic concept of quantitative approaches to computing mathematics. They will be able to acquire essential knowledge in mathematical concepts such as Number System, Set Theory and Logic, Matrices, Relations, Functions, Differentiation and Integration. Additionally, students will also learn basic concepts of database systems, data modelling techniques and SQL for data retrieval and manipulation. This course will also cover the fundamentals of python programming, and python applications for retrieving, transforming and visualizing data, understanding the key features of interaction, common interaction styles, and storytelling to support decision making using Python visualization packages. Last but not least, students will learn the fundamentals of computer graphics, 2D and 3D transformations, and the principles of designing effective data visualization, and the guidelines for developing an impactful dashboard.

This course is designed for anyone that is keen to learn about data analysis and the use of appropriate tools and software to derive meaning and insights for 2D and 3D data for computation and simulations purposes. No prior knowledge in graphics programming or any of the data analysis skills is assumed for this course. Students will learn how to manipulate 2D and 3D data, through the use of geometry and other mathematical concepts. They will also use industry tools such as SQL and Python to analyse big data and create dashboards and visualizations to share their findings. This course provides an introduction to computer graphics, data analysis and visualisation as tools to understand and interpret real world data and output from computational models.
After completing this course, the students will be able to perform basic and intermediate level analysis to gain insights from data and be competent in summarizing and presenting data, understand user interface design choices and using descriptive models to uncover patterns from data.
